How do I prevent my devices from losing connection via WiFi

Highlightbox

This article explains how to prevent iHexagon, iCombi, iVario, SelfCookingCenter and VarioCookingCenter from regularly losing WiFi connectivity. It describes the causes and provides concrete solution steps for stable connections via 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks using WPA2, WPA, WEP encryption.

Solution:

1. Check WiFi signal strength

  • Ensure that the cooking systems receive sufficient signal strength (at least “Good”)
  • If necessary, optimize the position of the router or access point. For SCC and VCC, also check the external WiFi adapter
  • Use WiFi repeaters or mesh systems to improve coverage

2.Choose the correct frequency band

  • 2.4 GHz: Greater range but more prone to interference
  • 5 GHz: Less interference, often more stable, but shorter range (Available for iHexagon, iCombi, and iVario with 5GHz stick).
Test both bands with the cooking systems and use the more stable one

3. Review network settings

  • Check whether WPA2, WPA, or WEP encryption is being used
  • Use static IP addresses or reserve the IP addresses in the router for the cooking systems
  • Check and, if necessary, extend the DHCP lease times
  • Note that with frequently changing WAN connections, the systems may lose their connection

4. Avoid interference

  • Microwaves, Bluetooth devices, and neighboring WiFis can cause interference
  • Manually adjust the channel selection in the router if needed

5. Keep firmware and software up to date

  • Regularly check whether software updates are available for the cooking systems
  • Also update the firmware of the router and access points

6. Consider professional network analysis

  • For persistent issues, an on-site WiFi measurement by IT professionals is recommended
