How to find the MAC address of a WGT-11 Gateway using the GWID

Highlightbox

Some networks use MAC filters to allow network traffic only for registered devices. The WGT-11 Gateway does not display the MAC address directly, but you can easily derive it from the serial number (GWID) on the label at the bottom of the device.

Short introduction
The GWID is a 16-character alphanumeric serial number. The MAC address consists of 12 characters. To determine the MAC address, remove the sequence “fdfe” (positions 7–10) from the GWID.

Solution steps

  1. Locate the label at the bottom of the gateway and note the 16-character GWID (e.g., a84041fdfe123456).
  2. Identify the “fdfe” sequence at positions 7 to 10 of the GWID.
  3. Remove “fdfe” from the GWID.
  4. The remaining 12 characters form the MAC address.

Example

  • GWID: a84041fdfe123456
  • Remove “fdfe” (positions 7–10): a84041fdfe123456 → a84041123456
  • MAC address: a8:40:41:12:34:56

The MAC address consists of 48 bits and is represented as a hexadecimal number.
